San Francisco Family Office

San Francisco’s remarkable history is brimming with examples of individuals and families whose vision and leadership created companies that have thrived over generations, expanding their horizons from the West to the world. These are the families we serve in Ascent Private Capital Management. Visitors to Ascent's San Francisco family office, located in the heart of the city's Financial District, will enjoy views of the city and bay. The comfortable, creative environment is the ideal location for families to come together to create their future legacies as they re-envision the possibilities for their wealth and its impact on the world.

Kelly A Thomson

Regional Managing Director, La Jolla and San Francisco

With more than three decades of experience in financial services, Kelly Thomson is uniquely qualified to serve as Regional Managing Director of Ascent’s newest office in La Jolla. During his career, Kelly has developed exceptional expertise in areas ranging from fundraising to investor relations and from marketing to new product development. He also has an entrepreneurial outlook, having founded and built a boutique investment advisory firm where he was responsible for recruiting, building and mentoring his team.

Kelly looks forward to “hearing the incredible family stories our clients have to tell. A good story starts from where you came from, where you are today, and where you want to go next. The part I like best is offering our unique services so that members of succeeding generations will have new stories to tell.”

It takes a good listener to elicit stories, and Kelly subscribes to the Zen Buddhist concept of Shoshin — or beginner’s mind — which means letting go of preconceptions and adopting an attitude of openness when listening to a client’s hopes, dreams, and goals.

In addition to his work with Ascent, Kelly currently serves as a board member and treasurer for Outside the Lens, an educational nonprofit that empowers youth through photography and video programs in San Diego.

A graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Kelly is also a CPA and holds an NASD Series 65 license.

Integrated service from your regional team and national specialists

Addressing both the qualitative and quantitative dimensions of multigenerational wealth, Ascent takes a holistic approach to client service. Each regional office is staffed by a team of professionals that include managing directors of wealth strategy (trust and estate advisors), investment consulting, private banking and financial administration.

These subject matter experts work closely with Ascent's regional managing director, client advisory — the relationship manager who is the primary point of contact for the family and individual family members — and the managing director, client experience — the key contact for day-to-day client requests. Team members actively participate in client meetings, providing an uncommon depth and breadth of wealth management expertise.

Ascent Private Capital Management's unique wealth sustainability services are delivered by our national team. Headquartered in our Denver office, they work closely with the regional office teams and travel exclusively to meet with Ascent families and their advisors.

The national team is led by a senior managing director for wealth sustainability and includes senior wealth planners and strategic wealth coaches, all focused on helping families understand the broader impact of their wealth. They address issues of family governance and legacy, wealth planning and CFO services.
