Snapshot: Highlights from the Photography Collection of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

Snapshot: Highlights from the Photography Collection of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive is presented by the San Francisco office of Ascent Private Capital Management of U.S. Bank, curated by BAMPFA and organized by the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.

The range of photographs shown includes black and white and color, small and large format, unique prints incorporating hand-drawn marks and laser prints made from digital files. The range of approaches is so broad that the boundaries of the category “photography” become quite blurred. Stylistically we can see diversity, from works that build on photography’s role as a documentary medium, to works that are artfully constructed abstractions or fantastical scenes reflecting the artists’ imaginations. In some cases, the artists use photography to extend traditional genres, while others take us into the new territories of expression made possible by digital media.
